#1 in Shen Nong's "Ben Cao Jing"
Ganoderma Lucidum, known as Lingzhi in China, is classified as the “most-superior” of all herbs in Shen Nong’s Ben Cao Jing — an ancient book of herbs and medicine, or pharmacopoeia. Also known as the Yan Emperor, Shen Nong ruled a tribal empire in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, in Hunan and Hubei provinces. Regarded as the father of Chinese agriculture, he taught crop cultivation and the medical use of herbs, especially Lingzhi. Indeed, Shen Nong was China’s first herbal doctor, risking his life daily to taste new herbs to assess their effect.
Shen Nong described 365 herbs in three classes: 120 Superior, 120 Average, and 125 Fair. A superior herb is one that “serves to maintain life, promote radiant health and long life … and to cause no side effects, even when used continuously.” Of the 365 herbs, Lingzhi was rated #1 — way higher than Ginseng — and thus is the most exalted Chinese medicine, originally restricted for use by the royal household (under penalty of death) because it was so rare. The first 6 herbs in Shen Nong’s “superior” class are the very same 6 types of Ganoderma Lucidum blended exclusively by Gano Excel into its beverages and other products.
#1 in Li Shizhen's "Ben Cao Gang Mu"
Li Shizhen (AD 1517-1593) was a doctor in a long line of several generations of doctors in Qichun County, Hubei Province. He wrote the General Outlines and Divisions of Herbal Medicine (or Ben Cao Gang Mu in Chinese). By far the greatest contribution to Chinese and world herbal medicine in history, the original compilation had 12,000 recipes and 1,900 medicines. Among all the items in this vast compilation, Li Shizhen ranked Ganoderma Lucidum as #1.
How Ganoderma Works on the Body
Most ailments and chronic illnesses are caused by pH imbalance due to toxin build up. Ganoderma Lucidum removes or neutralizes toxins so the body can rebuild its natural immune system. You will feel beneficial effects on day one, depending on your pH imbalance. If you take Ganoderma daily, you’ll feel distinctively rejuvenated and healthy. Stop taking it, and you will suffer a reversal of its benefits.
The Ganoderma Rejuvenation Process
• Seek & Treat (1-30 days)
Ganoderma finds and attacks areas of weakness or illness. During this phase, some apparent health symptoms may surface. Called “ailment reflection,” this is quite natural and is not a side effect. Ganoderma is zeroing in on an ailment, which it immediately starts to heal/rebalance.
• Cleanse & Restore (1-6 months):
Ganoderma neutralizes or removes acids, excess cholesterol, fat, dead tissue, and toxins. Day-by-day you’ll feel healthier and more energized as you accumulate Ganoderma. Your body is being restored to a healthy balance.
• Recover & Rejuvenate (6-24 months)
Ganoderma continues to strengthen the immune system with elements and vitamins. You’ll feel healthy and vigorous as Ganoderma sustains optimal body functions.
Medical Findings
Full of Healthy Ingredients
Ganoderma Lucidum is a “super” herb (known in China as "The King of Herbs") containing 200+ active elements (154 anti-oxidants alone), numerous vitamins, minerals and enzymes, plus a host of polysaccharides, lactones, alkaloids, immune system boosters, and anti-allergens. It also contains 112 known triterpenes (ACE inhibitors) which lower blood pressure.Ganoderma Lucidum is a centuries-old cancer treatment in Asia.It has a very high concentration of polysaccharides (immune modulators) which increase RNA/DNA in bone marrow, boost interferon, disrupt viral diseases, and fight tumors. It also contains glucan which holds cell walls intact and prolongs survival in gastric, colon, lung, and gynecological cancers.Ganoderma Lucidum has undergone several significantclinical trials in Malaysia (12-48 people per trial) by Dr. Teow Sun-Soo (PhD Genetic Engineering, Prof. of Medical Microbiology, MARA Inst. Tech.). His remarkable findings were published as “Effective Dosage of Ganoderma Lucidum in the Treatment of Various Ailments” (in MushWorld June 16/2004), as follows:
He found Ganoderma Lucidum to be effective or highly effective (sometimes bringing a complete cure) in treating:
Migraine … Rheumatism/Gout … Hyper/Hypotension (blood pressure) … Asthma … Blood sugar (diabetes) … Debility/ Stamina … Skin allergy … Hair loss … Kidney … Insomnia … Constipation/Hemorrhoids … Menstrual pain … Cardiovascular disease … Lupus … Hepatitis A/B/C … Epilepsy … Gastric ulcer … various cancers (depending on type/severity) … and other ailments.
Coffee Drinking Trends Report
Major Increase in Consumption among Young
(News release: July 19th, 2007)
Market penetration of coffee among American adults has surpassed that of soft drinks, reversing a 2-decade pattern. Specifically, the National Coffee Association's just-published 2007 National Coffee Drinking Trends (NCDT) report reveals that 57% of American adults drink coffee daily, while 51% consume soft drinks daily. And 81% of American adults drink coffee, with 67% doing so at least once a week.
Daily coffee consumption among 18-24-year olds climbed to 37% — a jump of 6 percentage points over 2006, in a fourth consecutive annual increase, for an overall gain of 21 percentage points since 2003 when market penetration for this age group was only 16%. This segment also now drink 3.1 cups per day, up from 2.5 cups in 2005.
"Coffee is the new 'black' among beverages," said Robert F. Nelson, president and CEO of the National Coffee Association, in a prepared statement. "Coffee is a trend-setting menu option for a new generation of consumers amid an exploding U.S. café culture." This age group also exhibits the largest increase in daily and weekly gourmet coffee beverage consumption.
Research has demonstrated that Ganoderma Lucidum has several different active constituents. One group of active constituents is the polysaccharides. The various types of polysaccharides found in Ganoderma Lucidum have demonstrated immune-enhancing properties. This includes enhancement of several important interleukins. Another major class of compounds is the triterpenes. These compounds have been reported to have adaptogenic, anti-hypertensive, and anti-allergy effects.
Cardiovascular Benefits
Ganoderma Lucidum has been shown in some studies to inhibit platelet aggregation and reduce blood pressure. In studies of people with hypertension, researchers found blood pressure was significantly reduced over two-weeks' time with reishi supplementation.
Immune Benefits
Ganoderma Lucidum is commonly prescribed by practitioners for long-term immune system support. In studies involving patients with advanced tumors, the patients were given Ganoderma Lucidum for thirty days. Researchers found a marked immune-modulating effect as demonstrated by an increase in T lymphocytes and decreased CD8 counts. Patients also reported reduced side effects due to chemotherapy or radiation as well as postoperation recovery.
Blood Sugar Balance
Studies have shown Ganoderma Lucidum to have a blood sugar lowering effect. Much of this activity appears to be due to polysaccharides known as Ganoderans A, B, and C.
It appears there are three main mechanisms behind this hypoglycemic effect. This includes Ganoderma Lucidum's ability to elevate plasma insulin levels, to enhance peripheral tissue utilization of glucose, and to enhance liver metabolism of glucose.
Anti-inflammatory Effects
Studies have shown that hot-water extracts of Ganoderma Lucidum have anti-inflammatory effects. One study found that 50 milligrams of reishi powder had comparable effects to 5 milligrams of hydrocortisone.
Liver Protector
Ganoderma Lucidum is commonly used for its hepatoprotective (liver protective) action. One study of patients with hepatitis B and elevated liver enzymes (SGOT/SGPT) and bilirubin were given reishi for three months. Significant reduction in SGOT and SGPT were noticed within one month. After three months all values were within normal range.
Oxygenation
One of the unique uses of Ganoderma Lucidum is for altitude sickness. Reishi appears to reduce altitude sickness by oxygenating the blood. This benefit was studied in Asian mountain climbers that ascended mountains as high as 17,000 feet with minimal reaction.
